Jer. 2:5 says, “Thus says the Lord: “What injustice have your fathers found in Me, that they have gone far from Me, have followed idols, and have become idolaters?”
And the latter part of Jer. 2:27 says, “But in the time of their trouble they will say, ‘Arise and save us.’
I fear many people approach their relationship with God this same way. They feel that they don’t necessarily have to obey His word but in times of trouble are quick to call upon Him.
No one likes being used, least of all our Heavenly Father. Our relationship with God is one of agape love. He has offered us His Son as a sacrifice, forgiveness of sins and unlimited opportunities to repent and follow Him.
But this is a two person relationship and we need to be mindful that we also show agape love to Him. We can do as Rom. 12:1-2 says and present our bodies as a living sacrifice. We can be obedient to His will and faithful to His kingdom.
We wouldn’t like it if we had a friend who only came around when they needed something and neither does God.
Let’s make sure to awaken our agape love for Him through prayer, obedience and faithfulness. Let’s show God how much we love Him through sacrificial living and sharing His good news with others. God bless.
